エフレオナルドです。イラストレーターをしています。奈良県出身で、活動拠点は東京です。

-イラストはいつからやっている？

物心ついた頃から絵を描くことや工作が好きで、デザインの専門学科のある高校へ通っていました。

デザインの専門学校を卒業後はインテリアメーカーで商品企画や商品撮影、グラフィックデザインを5年経験し退職。イラストレーターとして活動し始めたのは2023年からになります。

-作品のテーマで取り上げることが多いこと

特にテーマを決めて描くことは少なく、単純に頭の中に思い浮かんだイメージを描いてみたくてアウトプットすることが多いです。最近はシチュエーションありきのイラストが描きたくて、自身の身の回りで起こったことを描くことが増えました。

-リアルな雰囲気を持っている、何か考えてるような女の子が多く描かれているように感じます。何からインスピレーションを受けることが多い？

女の子の具体的なモチーフはないのですが、自身のボディ・コンプレックスを肯定したいという気持ちもあり、自分の特徴を混ぜ込んだフォルムにしているのでリアルな感じが出ているのかな？と思います。

インスピレーションは昭和の少女漫画“ベルサイユのばら”のキラキラした目が好きで、そこから影響を受けています。イラストの色合いは、カラフルなファッションやインテリアが大好きなので、インスタでいいなと思ったものから参考にすることが多いです。

-お気に入りの作品について教えてください

”2 ”というタイトルの作品です。これは変な話になってしまうのですが、私自身の“のどちんこ”がモチーフになっています。

私の性格は好奇心が強く、口の中をライトで照らしながら鏡で見ていたのですが、思わずむせてしまったときに、のどちんこが2つに分かれて「のどちんこって2つに分かれてるんや！」という事を中学生の頃に発見しました。そこからずっとのどちんこは2つで1つになっていると思っていたのですが、今年の頭に夫の口の中を見せてもらったとき、のどちんこを観察すると私のように2つに分かれておらず、1つだけになっていました。気になってネットで調べてみると、ごく稀に2つに分かれている人がいるとの事でした。自分の体の特徴は面白いなと感じたため、その好奇心のままに筆を走らせて描き上げ作品にしました。この変なエピソードが自分らしくて、また青と白2色の陰影の付け方が上手くいったなということもあり、1番お気に入りの作品です。

-来年制作予定のプロジェクトや作品は？

開催時期は未定なのですが、来年の前半あたりでアパレル兼古着屋さんでのPOPUPを予定していています。今まではポスターやキャンバスなど平面の作品ばかり制作していたのですが、服を取り扱っている場所でPOPUPをするのでTシャツに直接ドローイングしたものを展示・販売する予定です。Tシャツに描くとなると、普段制作している1枚絵とは異なる感覚で構成する必要があるので難しいです。ですが、Tシャツだからこそ出来る表現もたくさんあるので、楽しみながら制作を進めています。

– Please introduce yourself.

I’m Fle0nald, an illustrator. I’m originally from Nara Prefecture and currently based in Tokyo.

– When did you start drawing illustrations?

I’ve loved drawing and crafting since I was a child, so I attended a high school with a specialized design course.

After graduating from a design vocational school, I worked at an interior design company for five years, doing product planning, product photography, and graphic design. I left that job and started working as an illustrator in 2023.

– What themes do you often explore in your work?

I rarely set specific themes when I draw. Most of the time, I simply want to visualize the images that come to mind and bring them to life. Recently, I’ve started illustrating situations inspired by events in my daily life.

– Many of your illustrations feature girls with a real, contemplative atmosphere. Where do you often draw inspiration from?

I don’t have a specific motif for the girls I draw, but I think the realistic feeling might come from my desire to embrace my own body insecurities. I mix some of my own features into their forms, which might make them feel more authentic.

For inspiration, I love the sparkling eyes in the Shōwa era girls’ manga like The Rose of Versailles, which has influenced me. As for the colors in my illustrations, I’m inspired by colorful fashion and interiors, often referencing things I like on Instagram.

– Can you tell us about your favorite piece?

My favorite piece is titled “2”. It might sound strange, but the inspiration came from my own uvula.

I’ve always been a curious person, and as a teenager, I would shine a light into my mouth and observe it with a mirror. Once, I accidentally gagged and noticed that my uvula seemed to split into two. I thought, “Uvula has two parts!” and believed that for a long time.

Earlier this year, I looked into my husband’s mouth and realized his uvula wasn’t split like mine—it was just one piece. Curious, I researched it and learned that having a split uvula is a rare condition. I found this unique feature of my body fascinating, so I channeled that curiosity into creating this piece.

This odd story feels very true to who I am, and I’m also proud of how I handled the shading with just blue and white. It’s my favorite piece for both personal and technical reasons.

– Do you have any projects or works planned for next year?

I’m planning a pop-up event at a clothing and vintage shop in the first half of next year. Until now, I’ve mainly worked on flat pieces like posters and canvases, but this time, I’m trying something new—drawing directly on T-shirts to exhibit and sell.

Creating art on T-shirts feels different from the single-frame illustrations I usually do, so it’s a bit challenging. However, there are so many unique ways to express myself through T-shirts, and I’m enjoying the process of exploring this new medium.
