Pilar Muzsi is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Madrid and now based in Bilbao. Since 2019, her work has blended various art forms, including writing, photography, and drawing, with ceramics as her primary medium. Muzsi’s creations explore themes of love and heartbreak, which she sees as the core of human experience. Influenced by Japan, Matisse, the Spanish concept of “blin blin” (the shine of things), and her beloved dog, Diana, her art offers a unique and emotional perspective on the complexities of life.

Hi! i”m Pilar Muzsi. I’m from Madrid but i’m based in Bilbao since 2019.
Tell me about your artwork, how to introduce to anyone who first saw them?
Muzsi is where many arts, such as writing, photo and drawing, come together and lead to ceramics as the main form. I design pieces that deal with love and heartbreak because for me they are the driving force behind everything that makes us up. i am defined by Japan, Matisse, the “blin blin” (“blin blin” is a word that in Spain we use for talking about the shine of things) and Diana, my lovely dog.
What is your major inspiration to your artwork?
My major inspiration is, as i said in the previous question, the love, not just the love that you feel for your lover or your partner, but the love that we feel for the animals, the nature, the art, for ourselves, our friends…
How did you start creating ?
I’ve been a creative person since i was a child but it wasn’t until i came to Bilbao that i didnt start to develop my artistic side. in Madrid i studied architecture but when i started working as an architect, i realized that i didn’t enjoy it so i decided to come to Bilbao, that is where i live since 2019, and started my degree in arts. That moment was so important to me because that meant my beginning as an artist in a real way. Studying arts and share time and spaces with other artists changed my mind and made bigger my perception of everything. That’s how i discovered ceramics and started taking classes and learning on my own.
Are you working on something at the moment ?
At this moment i’m very interested in jewelry. Im looking for people that work in this field and I can work with. I really would love to develop my own jewelry line.
Tell me about your favorite book, film, music, anything that you get inspiration from ?
I get inspiration from everywhere. I’m a collector person, i have lots of things that I don’t use but just look at them inspires me. Since a few months im very interested in religious things, especially the literature. Im reading Santa Teresa de Jesús, i know is a little bit weird, maybe. But there are some films or music where i always come when i need inspiration for example, all the Almodovar’s films or Tarantino’s. Reading mangas, going to museums. There is a work by Rothko at Guggenheim Museum, here in Bilbao, that i love to go there and watch it because i really feel how it recharges my battery. Listening to Camaron, reading Don Quijote… There is something in tradition, roots, family, home… that really inspires me.
Do you have daily routine?
Actually, I don’t. The days i wake up early i do because i have like a plan of having breakfast, taking my shower and walk my dog but the rest of the days I don’t. But, to be totally honest, there is something that i do the same everyday of my life since years and is the breakfast. Always fresh orange juice, eggs or bread and coffee. That is something that I can’t quit, sorry!!!
What’s your favorite ways of spending your off day?
It depends on many things; the weather, my mood, if i’m tired or not, etc. but i try to be calm, walk with my dog, write and read which is something that I don’t have much time for during the working days. But, to be completely honest, my days off i use to spend them working in my studio. I have another job and it doesnt leave me all the free time that i need for my art project so its common that i spend my off days creating and working calmly.
Do you have future goal, or anything you want to try in the future?
Absolutely!! I have two future goals. One is having a beautiful house somewhere away from the city, near the beach. And another is founding my own ceramics school where people can develop their artistic projects.
Where’s your favorite place, where you feel calm?
There are two places where I always find calm: Ibiza and my town in Ciudad Real, especially my grandmother’s house in summer. It’s sad because they are both away from here and I have to make a real plan to go there but when I get it it’s really worth it

私の主要なインスピレーションは、前の質問でも言ったように愛です。恋人やパートナーへの愛だけでなく、動物や自然、アート、自己、友人に対する愛も含まれます。
どのように創作を始めましたか？
私は子供のころからクリエイティブな人間でしたが、ビルバオに来るまで本格的にアートを開発することはありませんでした。マドリードで建築を学びましたが、建築家として働き始めたとき、それが楽しめないことに気づき、ビルバオに来ることを決めました。そこから私は芸術の学位を取得し、2019年からビルバオに住んでいます。その時が私にとってアーティストとして本格的に始まる瞬間でした。芸術を学び、他のアーティストと時間や空間を共有することは、私の視野を広げ、物事をより深く感じさせてくれました。そこから陶芸を発見し、独学で学び始めました。
現在取り組んでいることはありますか？
現在は、ジュエリーに非常に興味があります。この分野で働いている人々を探していて、共同で作業ができればと思っています。自分のジュエリーラインを作りたいと思っています。
インスピレーションを得るためのお気に入りの本、映画、音楽などはありますか？
私はどこからでもインスピレーションを得ます。コレクターなので、使わないものをたくさん持っていて、それを見るだけでインスピレーションを得ます。最近は宗教的なこと、特に文学に非常に興味があります。サンタ・テレサ・デ・フエスの本を読んでいますが、少し変わっているかもしれません。でも、インスピレーションが必要なときにいつも見る映画や音楽があります。例えば、アルモドバル監督の映画やタランティーノ監督の映画です。漫画を読んだり、美術館に行ったりするのも好きです。ビルバオのグッゲンハイム美術館にあるロスコの作品を見に行くのも好きで、そこに行くと本当にエネルギーを充電できるように感じます。カマロンを聴いたり、『ドン・キホーテ』を読んだりすることもあります。伝統、ルーツ、家族、家… 本当にインスピレーションを感じます。
毎日の日課はありますか？
早起きした日は、朝食を取って、シャワーを浴びて、犬を散歩させることが多いですが、他の日は特に決まった日課はありません。しかし、正直に言うと、毎日必ずやることが一つあります。それは朝食です。必ず新鮮なオレンジジュース、卵かパン、そしてコーヒーを飲みます。それはやめられません！
オフの日の過ごし方は？
天気や気分、疲れているかどうかなど、いろいろなことによって異なりますが、なるべく落ち着いて過ごすようにしています。犬と散歩したり、読書や執筆をしたりします。それは平日の仕事ではあまりできないことなので。でも正直に言うと、オフの日でもスタジオで仕事をしていることが多いです。別の仕事があるので、アートプロジェクトに必要な自由な時間をあまり取ることができません。オフの日は静かに創作活動をして過ごしています。
将来の目標や挑戦したいことはありますか？
未来の目標は2つあります。一つは、都市から離れたビーチ近くに美しい家を持つことです。そしてもう一つは、自分の陶芸学校を開き、人々が自分のアートプロジェクトに集中できる場所を提供することです。
一番落ち着ける場所はどこですか？
落ち着く場所は2つあります。ひとつはイビサ、もう一つはシウダ・レアルの故郷、特に夏におばあちゃんの家です。残念ながら、両方ともこちらから遠く離れていて、計画を立てて行く必要がありますが、行く価値はあります。

These hearts were a collaboration between Pedro Hoz and I. He is a friend, he is a painter and told me to make something together for an exhibition that he had in a village near Bilbao. I showed him those hearts and he painted them with these beautiful drawings which speaks very well about me and Muzsi. I love this work, it is very special for me.

I love these swans. They are a representation of the gifts people give in Spain when someone gets married or when a baby is born and they invite you to the baptism. It’s called “recuerdo” and it is something very typical.
私はこの白鳥が大好きです。これは、スペインで誰かが結婚したり、赤ちゃんが生まれて洗礼式に招待されたりした時に贈られるギフトを表現しています。それは「レクエルド」と呼ばれ、スペインではとても典型的なものです。
These bowls are a present that I made for my boyfriend. He loves motorcycles and anime and he has a brand that its called North Empire so I decided to surprised him his last birthday making these pieces to him^.^

Front and back of the same work. I love princess diana and it is the first work i do as a kind of tribute to her. The quote on the back is from Rosalía and Lisa’s song “New woman” and I love the message. Its very hopeful and lovely ❤

It was my first foray into jewelry and it’s named Bunny Mcdougal Necklace.
これは私のジュエリーへの初めての挑戦で、バニー・マクドゥーガル・ネックレスという名前です。
The title of this project is Dysmorphia 001. It is part of the collaboration with Morle Estudio. Behind this fashion project is Jorge who contacted me, explained to me his project and I joined in creating these pieces that are a representation of his clothes. The main discourse is about eating disorders and how the essential shape of the body often ends up being altered by our own behavior or vision. I loved working with Jorge and doing this project with him. He gave me the opportunity to be 100% creative and represent the concept totally from my point of view. He trusted me and my work and I really appreciate it.
