自己紹介お願いします

現在ロンドン拠点のメイクアップアーティスト。ファッション、エディトリアル、広告、MV等、国内外問わず活動しています。

育った福岡、日本の景色や文化で大好きなことがあれば教えてください。

幼い頃から日本の伝統的なアート文化やサブカルチャーにとても興味があり、大きなインスピレーションの源となっています。また地元、北九州の山笠祭りや商店街、お城、自然豊かな海や山が大好きで、今でも帰郷した際にはよく訪れます。

クリエイティブでユニークなメイクアップがとても表現力豊かだと思います。作品につながっていると感じる、日々のインスピレーションは何ですか？

旅をしていて訪れた可愛い街並み、小売店でたまたま見かけた不思議なパーツ、何かしらの経験から喜び/フラストレーションを感じたときなど、日常の何気ない出来事からインスピレーションを受けることが多いです。

顔に漢字を描く作品がとてもパワフルでかつ繊細な美しさを感じられます。漢字を表現に取り入れようと思ったきっかけはありますか？

祖父はとても頭のいい人で、私が幼稚園の頃からよく漢字の読み書きを教えてくれていました。それがきっかけで約8年ほど書道を習うようになり、師範を取った経験が今のスタイルに大きく影響していると思います。漢字の持つ繊細さとメッセージ性のある芯の強さとの絶妙なバランスが大好きです。

わたし（詩織）と出会った2020の頃はお互い東京を拠点にした初年でした。
その頃を思い返して思うことはありますか？

2020年は上京して1年目の年で、フリーランスとしてのお仕事はイエスマンでなんでも引き受けていました。その中でアーティストとしての自分を守るために”No”と言うことも時には大切だと学びました。人と人とのお仕事だからこそ今はコミュニケーションをとても大切にしています。

これからの目標やビジョンはありますか？

3年東京、2年ロンドンといった2拠点での生活を経てようやくスタート地点に立てたような気がしています。これから国内外を問わず色々なクリエイターを繋ぎ、繋がれ幅広くお仕事をしていくのがとても楽しみです。

Please introduce yourself. 

I am a makeup artist currently based in London. I work in fashion, editorials, advertising, music videos, etc. both in Japan and abroad. 

What is your favorite thing about the scenery and culture of Fukuoka and Japan where you grew up? 

Ever since I was a kid, I have been very interested in traditional Japanese art culture and subculture and it has been a great source of inspiration for me. I also love my hometown, Kitakyushu, with its Yamakasa Festival, shopping streets, castles, and natural beauty of the sea and mountains, which I still visit often when I go back home.

I consider your creative and unique make-up to be very expressive. What is your daily inspiration that you feel is connected to your work?

I am often inspired by ordinary everyday events, such as pretty streets I visit while traveling, strange things I happen to see in small stores, or when I feel joy/frustration from an experience of some kind. 

I find your work of painting Kanji characters on faces to be very powerful and yet delicately beautiful. What made you decide to incorporate kanji into your expression? 

My grandfather was a very intelligent man, and he used to teach me how to read and write kanji characters from when I was in kindergarten. This led me to learn calligraphy for about 8 years, and I think my experience of taking a master has greatly influenced my current style. I love the perfect balance between the delicacy of the kanji and the core strength of the message it conveys. 

When you and I (Shiori) met in 2020, it was the first year we were both based in Tokyo. Do you have any thoughts about that time? 

2020 was my first year in Tokyo, and I was a yes-man and took on all kinds of freelance work. During that time, I learned that sometimes it is important to say “no” to protect yourself as an artist. I value communication very much now because it is a job that involves people and people. 

Do you have any goals or visions for the future? 

After living in Tokyo for 3 years and London for 2 years, I feel like I have finally reached the starting point. I am looking forward to working with a wide range of creators, both in Japan and overseas, and connecting with them.
