今年の頭に撮影されたこの作品は、男性2名のファッションポートレートを通して、「男性性の中に存在するフェミニンさ」をテーマに制作されました。 女性も、クィアも、男性たちも、それぞれの中にフェミニンさとマスキュリンさの両方を自然に持っていると感じたことから、 それらは固定された対極ではなく、グラデーションのように緩やかに混ざり合い、揺れ動き続けるものだとしたストーリーです。 アジアには、男性の柔らかさや繊細さを肯定する文化が存在する一方で、今なお「男らしくあること」や感情を抑制することを求める空気も強く残っています。 男性がフェミニンさや脆さ、柔らかさを表現すること自体が、解放として立ち現れるのではないかと感じています。 バーニングマガジンディレクター兼フォトグラファーの大田詩織と、セクシャルウェルネスブランドTHE NEW CHAPTERディレクター兼スタイリストの小泉茜、そして制作チームの中で対話を重ねながら、ジェンダー表現、美しさ、身体性について考え、このシリーズは完成しました。 この作品を通して、フェミニンさとマスキュリンさの境界線の不透明さ、そして「ジェンダー」というカテゴリーを通した時、私たちの美しさの認識はどのように変化するのかを問いかけています。

Created at the beginning of this year, this series explores “the femininity that exists within masculinity” through fashion portraits of two men. Personally, I feel that women like myself, my queer friends, and men all naturally carry both femininity and masculinity within us. I see these qualities not as fixed opposites, but as something that gradually blends and shifts along a spectrum. Across Asia, there are cultures that embrace softness and sensitivity in men. At the same time, there remains a strong social expectation for men to “be masculine” and to suppress their emotions. I believe that when men allow themselves to express femininity, vulnerability, and softness, that expression itself can become a form of liberation. Through ongoing conversations within the creative team, this series was developed by Shiori Ota, Director and of Burning Magazine, and Photographer, and Akane Koizumi, Director of sexual wellness brand THE NEW CHAPTER, and Stylist, alongside the rest of the production team. Together, we reflected on gender expression, beauty, and the body. Through this work, we question the blurred boundaries between femininity and masculinity, and ask how our perception of beauty might shift when viewed through the category of “gender.”
